Let me explain a little bit about today...
My three year old is not home.
My one year old took a three hour nap and doesn't have the three year old to torture her.
My twenty-nine year old is sleeping. (hehe my hubby)
And me... well, I am the "homemaker."
My home can be a Heaven on Earth. I picture heaven as a quiet, peaceful, relaxing kind of place... and my home was just that...
...but only for a moment.
Soon my baby was hungry, my toddler was home, and my sweetheart was awake and dreading another night at a job he loves. (sense the sarcasm)
My day really has been good. I feel like I have accomplished quite a bit. Here is my list:
I had both of my kids ready by 8:30 a.m, teeth brushed (thanks to their dad), floor swept, dishes done, a load of laundry, closed a pampered chef party, made and decorated approx. 50 cake pops for my brothers graduation party (if you've never had them, you must - go to bakerella.com and if you really love me you can buy me her new cookbook!)
As I was finishing up on my little cake balls my sweet Paisley, sitting in her Bumbo chair, did not smell too sweet. I pulled her out of the chair and we did not only have a dirty diaper, but dirty clothes and a dirty chair... it was literally everywhere. I got my little Sugar cleaned up and as I was cleaning the lovely poop from her chair, thoughts came pouring into my head...
I saw the computer and automatically thought of my husband asking when I was going to post something new on our blog (he loves my blog - not as much as he loves me though). It has been almost 6 months since I had posted anything. I feel like I had good reasons, we were crazy busy building a new home. Anyway, none the less, my blog has been a little neglected. I thought (still cleaning the messy, stinky chair) "Why do I blog anyway?" "Who really reads my blog?" "Who do I write my posts for?" And the answer is "me." Selfish, huh. Really though, I blog for me. It is a place that I can just get away and put my to do list far behind me, well, until Dallan decides he needs a drink of milk. While I am home with my little sweeties I do tend to think. I think of what kind of mom I want to be. As I think of all the great qualities every other mom has, I find myself fitting in the mediocre category in all departments. I can sew... a little. I can cook... something edible, I can clean... even if it doesn't look like it after an hour, I can craft... as long as someone gives me an idea and basically makes it for me. I can do all of these things, not perfectly but I can do them. What I am really good at is... I can change a diaper in less than a minute, I can do my hair in about five (that's all the time I have to myself for getting ready purposes) and I am really good at pulling screaming kids from the checkstand because they didn't get any bubblegum.
Now, I will be the first to say I love my life as a mother. I wouldn't give my life for any amount of prestige or money or whatever it may be. My husband and my monsters are worth more than all of it. I love them dearly, even when they throw up in the middle of Wal-Mart. They are blessings in my life each and every day. Elder Henry B Eyring spoke about taking a few minutes every day and asking yourself, "Have I seen the hand of the Lord in my life?" As we ponder this question and review the day we have had, we will see that the Lord has truly blessed our lives.
This is my purpose. I write this blog, truly for myself. To show and teach myself that the Lord has blessed me and my family with so many wonderful gifts. I want to share those every day gifts and tender mercies with my kids and my husband (hence the name; these posts are truly letters to them.) I love them and want them to know I love them. I love the gospel and I love my Savior.
